Questions You May Have
-
Easy. You can self-refer to access NDIS psychology sessions with our team, or someone can make a referral on your behalf. Practitioners at The Heart & Mind Collective accept both plan-managed and self-managed participants. NDIS psychology services provided by The Heart & Mind Collective include counselling, assessment, writing review reports, and collaborating with your support team where required.
A ‘service agreement’ will be provided to you at your initial session, where you have the choice to allocate the desired amount of funded hours from your NDIS plan for psychology services.

Self-managed and plan-managed refer to ways you can manage your NDIS funding. We have outlined the key differences below:
Self-managed; You, or your plan nominee, chooses to be responsible for controlling your own support budget, and arranging, managing and paying for the supports that best meet your needs. You have the flexibility to choose the provider of your choice, including providers not registered with the NDIS.
Plan Managed; You elect a plan manager who becomes responsible for paying for services, so you won’t have to worry about paying them yourself. You still have flexibility to choose the provider of your choice, including providers not registered with the NDIS. There is no extra cost to have a Plan Manager appointed as the plan management fee is completely covered by your NDIS plan under the “Improved Life Choices” budget and is added on top of your allocated funding.
-
NDIS funding may be utilised for assessment if the purpose is to determine capacity, help increase skills, independence, and community participation. NDIS funding cannot be used for the purpose of attaining a diagnosis for determining scheme eligibility. However, if the assessment was to look at cognitive and adaptive functioning or assessing the impact of disability on functioning for treatment planning and a diagnosis was discovered, than it may be a reasonable and necessary support in which NDIS funding can be utilised.
If you are at all uncertain, it is advised to speak to your plan manager or chat with your clinician further at the initial intake session. For more information see the NDIS website: https://ourguidelines.ndis.gov.au/how-ndis-supports-work-menu/reasonable-and-necessary-supports.

The word neurodiversity refers to the diversity of all people, acknowledging the differences in the way people’s brains work. We are all born with a different brain. People experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways. There is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving, and differences are not viewed as deficits. Neurodiversity is the idea that differences in how the brain develops are normal.
-
Neurodiversity-affirming support is an inclusive, non-judgemental approach that embraces the uniqueness and strengths of neurodivergence. This approach supports the fact that there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving. Differences are not viewed as deficit and the approach does not focus on “fixing impairments”. Instead, it provides people with the skills, tools and strategies to allow for improved quality of life.
