EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment used to help resolve emotional and behavioural difficulties caused by disturbing, difficult, or frightening life experiences.
A single traumatic event or repeated long lasting events can overwhelm an individual's ability to cope or make sense of what has happened. A person can relive what they saw, heard and smelt or re-experience the same level of distress they felt at the time of the original event. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tactile, auditory) to help process the memories and emotional distress that may have become "stuck" in the mind and nervous system by repeatedly activating opposite sides of the brain.
EMDR also has a high level of success in treating conditions involving depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, anger issues, relationship problems, sleep problems, illness, or injury. EMDR is a complex therapeutic process that should always be delivered by properly trained professionals.
